Pasta is one of the most popular foods in the world. This delicious food is cooked differently; sometimes, its recipes and spices change when it enters different countries. For example, spaghetti became steamed pasta after entering Iran. But have you ever wondered who and where this delicious dough, which comes in many forms, was first prepared?

In the old stories and narratives, it is said that Marco Polo introduced pasta to Italy at the end of the 13th century after discovering the Far East. The traces of pasta can be traced back to the 4th century BC. In an Etruscan tomb, there is a sketch of a group of natives who appear to be cooking pasta.

The history of pasta


After visiting Italy, the British brought simple pasta to their country and introduced it to the new world. Colonists in England quickly took the method of cooking noodles to America, and Americans cooked it in a way similar to today's pasta with the addition of cheese and cream sauce. Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, brought the first pasta machine to America in 1789, which is how the pasta and pasta industry was formed in America.

The first pasta factory was built in 1848 by a Frenchman in Brooklyn. To dry the spaghetti noodles, the factory would spread them out on the roof to dry in the sunlight. Pasta production expanded in the 19th century, and pasta production factories were seen in almost all countries.

Currently, macaroni and pasta is the most popular family food and is produced in different shapes and sizes. Some are produced with wheat flour and vegetables, some with enriched flour, and others without gluten for people who are sensitive to gluten. The interest in macaroni and pasta is so great that even movies have been made with the name of this delicious food. Even in Iran, the movies "Spaghetti in 8 minutes" and "Pasta Rivoni" were named after this popular dish.

For example, in a study conducted on the diet of 23,000 Italians, no correlation was found between increased waist size or body mass index (BMI) with pasta consumption. This food is fat-free and low in sodium, so it is one of the best choices for a slimming diet, and of course, it is one of the main ingredients of the Mediterranean diet.

Side effects of overeating pasta

Pasta is rich in carbohydrates, which can be bad for you if you overeat it. It also contains gluten, a type of protein that can cause problems for people who are sensitive to gluten.
